New Seattle skatepark rules signs break it down (so you don’t have to)

Skatepark_sign 2

Pete Whitley, SPS rocker and author of the Public Skatepark Development Guide, was comissioned to create a rules sign for SeaSk8.  The simple messaging makes a ton of sense, especially after Parks created those “tin tomes” at Lower Woodland that no one bothers to read.  I mean, who has the time?

I also designed some signs for Lower Woodland that are being made now, which will hopefully at least give you something to point to when you have just survived a sprocket-blow to your cranium.  As the mock-ups below will show, the language is simple, they are conceptually shallow, and the font is finely tuned to appeal to the audience:

  1. Dont be suprised when those things get torn off and or vandalized. Because it will happen.

  2. I still call the cops when bikes show up at Ballard. Does anyone do this at Lower Woodland? Do the cops repsond?
I hate calling the cops, but its the only way to keep the park for its intended use and remain non-violent.

  3. How does seask8 have a park monitor and how can greenlake get one? there have been so many bmx bikes there lately, and they’re full of attitude.
When will the signs be up?

  4. Bikes and Skateboards can get along at park as long as everyone looks where they’re going. Don’t be a dick and just do what you love.
