CTA: Skatepark Plan up for Vote

Call To Action!
Priority: High
When: June 6th @ 2pm

The Parks, Education, Libraries and Labor (PELL) Committee will convene to vote on the resolution next Wednesday June 6 at 2pm at the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 600 4th Avenue. Although the City Council has been a staunch supporter of skateboarders and skateparks in Seattle, we really need to show that there is a large population of skateboarders in Seattle, we appreciate their continued support and that future funding will bring the Plan to fruition. Funding for the proposed skateparks sites is not guaranteed if the resolution is passed so a loud pro-skateparks presence at this meeting will go a long ways toward making the decision makers in the room understand that funding is necessary.

Public comment is accepted at the start of the meeting (again 2pm sharp – show up early to sign in for comments) and is limited to 2 minutes.

This is the BEST WAY TO DIRECTLY SPEAK TO THE CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS and tell them that you support skateboarding in Seattle. Tell them:

  • This recognized sport is severely underserved (Ballard Bowl is the only legal publically funded facility)
  • You think the Master Plan is the best way towards providing the necessary skateboarding facilities
  • That in the short-term we need a replacement facility ASAP because the downtown skateboarding community has been destroyed by the destruction of SeaSk8.

Remember, your audience – ranting will only go against our cause. Be positive and concise in your remarks and thank those that have continued to push to serve Seattle’s skateboarders.Hope to see you all there. I will follow up with a reminder early next week. Please forward to anyone that may be interested in providing support.

  1. hey all! i urge you to put this one on the calendar. gather your friends, come check out city hall and see who your city council members are. bust out some courage and sign up to speak. you might be nervous at first, to speak in front of a room full of people on a mic- but, you can really make a difference.
