WSB: Myrtle skatepark “cloudier still”

john-lithgow-2.jpgThe West Seattle Blog has posted another update in the saga of the proposed Myrtle Reservoir skatepark. I say “another” because they posted one a while back, but it all seemed a little tenuous and I was waiting for something definitive before I posted anything here.

Well there’s a new design diagram now, so that seems like something real is happening, and it’s not looking great. The triple-threat combo punch here consists of:

  • Parks took the skatepark out of the “included” category and placed it into the “possible” wasteland
  • They are now saying the money for the skatepark will not come out of the money that’s already available (which is what they said at the last meeting too so that’s not a huge deal)
  • Parks is once again including High Point in it’s rhetoric, where there is no money, no room available in the proposed area, and of course there is nothing planned or happening that would bring a skatepark there any time soon

I’m really sick of delivering bad news on this website but it seems like that’s what I do most of the time. Parks really needs to grow a backbone when it comes to skateparks. The City Council has all but handed them the keys to the Cadillac, and Parks can’t even seem to turn on the radio.

The next Myrtle meeting is on May 1st at Highpoint Community Center, so mark your calendar now and be prepared for another uplifting scene out of Footloose.
