Summary

Citywide Skate Park Plan update funding issues dominated discussion with new member introductions and updates on various project statuses including the Skate Dot app prototype.

Member Introductions and Agenda
The group unanimously approved the meeting agenda after brief pleasantries and welcomed new member Weston Horner, who shared their background and connection to the Rainier Beach park. Veteran members provided introductions and updated the group on their involvement with ongoing projects like Rainier Beach and Morgan Junction.

Citywide Skate Park Plan Update
The Seattle Parks Department agreed to contract with the Skatepark Advisory Committee to update the citywide skate park plan, but the existing funding is inadequate for hiring a consultant. The current contract scope lacks necessary community engagement, which members believe is critical for assessing current skate park usage. A major decision was made to proceed with the update by having a member act as the hired consultant to manage the project due to insufficient funding.

Project Updates and App Prototype
Updates were given on several projects, including the Dr. Blanch Leviso Park receiving permission for DIY elements and the Morgan Junction project facing delays due to larger park redevelopment issues. A prototype of the “Skate Dot” mobile application was presented, designed to decentralize skate park construction by allowing users to submit and vote on ideas for easily funded, single-feature implementations.

Suggested next steps

Matt Johnston will scope the work for the citywide skatepark plan within the next couple of weeks, including the work needed, number of people, and hours it will take, for the group to slot in and help with the work.
Matt Johnston will make the contract for the citywide skatepark plan public on the Slack and create a new thread for all related work.
Kristin E will contact Tobias Coughlin-Bogue offline regarding features Skate Like a Girl is trying to get rid of, and provide an update on the Hangar 2 project.

Erin Demmon will file the 501c3 for green storm water infrastructure and micro solar grids by the end of next week.
Josh Radick will try to invite Chris and Jim over for a session by next month to start a conversation about the Marginal Way situation.

Adrien Way will switch out his email with Matt Johnston for the recurring meeting invitation.
Kristin E, Josh Radick, and Tobias Coughlin-Bogue will hopefully host a courts cleanup day at Capitol Hill in early May to remove crap obstacles, clean, and sweep the space.
